Vance Reese, Organ and Bass Teacher

Vance Reese, opera workshopVance Reese has been working as a musician in the greater Asheville area since 1996. He has worked as an organist at Trinity Episcopal, Congregation Beth Ha Tephila, Christ School, St. Mark’s Lutheran, and others.

As a double-bassist, Dr. Reese was co-principal with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra. As a teacher he taught at Mars Hill University, Brevard College, Christ School, as well as for private students. He has been an accompanist with Asheville Lyric Opera, Asheville Choral Society, Asheville Symphony Chorus, and for private students. He has also served as music director for SART, Parkway Playhouse, Asheville Lyric Opera. And, for three years, he served as a singer and cantorial soloist with Congregation Beth Ha Tephila.

Vance is a founder of Opera Creations, a non-profit group seeking to present comedy in music, and give singer-on-stage opportunities to singers of various ages. Colonial Theater in Keene, New Hampshire, produced his children’s opera, The King, the Queen and the Bee based on music by Brahms in June 2014.

Dr. Reese has a Bachelor of Music degree in organ performance from Southern Methodist University, a Masters of Music degree in sacred music from Scarritt College (Nashville), and a Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University (DM in ’97) in the areas of organ, sacred music, and music history.

At AFTA, Dr. Reese shares his experience and knowledge teaching Bass lessons and Organ lessons to students at all levels.
